Occupational Therapy
A pediatric occupational therapist helps children develop the essential skills needed for daily activities, independence, and participation in play, school, and home life. Our role includes:
Fine & Gross Motor Development
- Supporting hand strength, coordination, and dexterity for tasks like writing, drawing, and using scissors.
- Improving balance, strength, and coordination for climbing, running, and jumping.
Sensory Processing & Regulation
- Helping children who may be over- or under-sensitive to sights, sounds, textures, and movement.
- Assisting with emotional regulation, focus, and managing sensory overwhelm in different environments.
Self-Care & Independence
- Teaching skills for dressing, toileting, feeding, and personal hygiene.
- Supporting children with using cutlery, opening lunchboxes, and other daily tasks.
Handwriting & Pre-Writing Skills
- Developing pencil grip, letter formation, and motor control for writing success.
- Supporting pre-writing skills like drawing, tracing, and copying.
Play & Social Skills
- Encouraging imaginative, cooperative, and interactive play.
- Teaching turn-taking, sharing, and social engagement with peers.
Emotional & Behavioural Regulation
- Providing strategies for managing frustration, anxiety, and big emotions.
- Helping children develop coping skills for transitions and routine changes.
School Readiness & Classroom Participation
- Supporting attention, sitting posture, and following routines.
- Helping children develop skills for holding a pencil, cutting, and using tools needed for school success.
Feeding & Mealtime Support
- Assisting children with fussy eating, picky eating, and transitioning to new textures.
- Helping with self-feeding, utensil use, and exploring new foods.
Parent & Educator Coaching
- Providing families and teachers with strategies to support daily life skills.
- Helping educators adapt environments to support a child’s development and participation.
